Why Children Dentistry Is Important For Your Child?

Children Dentistry Applecross WA, Kids Emergency Dentist

It’s important for parents to take their children to the dentist for regular checkups. Children’s teeth are growing and changing all the time, and it’s important to make sure that they’re healthy and free of cavities. A trip to the dentist can also help identify any potential problems early on so that they can be treated before they become more serious.

In addition to regular checkups, parents should also make sure that their kids are taking good care of their teeth at home. This means brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and eating a healthy diet. These simple steps can go a long way towards keeping your child’s mouth healthy and cavity-free.

At The Applecross Dentist, we understand how important these concerns are for you as a parent of young children, and that’s why we work hard to provide top-quality dental care to our patients.

If you have any concerns about your child’s dental health, be sure to talk to our dentist. We can help you create a plan to ensure that your child’s teeth are healthy and strong.

Your Child's First Dental Visit

At The Applecross Dentist, we recommend bringing your child in for a checkup and cleaning as early as possible, ideally before they turn one year old. It is recommended your children see a dentist every 6 months after their first visit.

Children’s teeth are very important for their overall health, so it’s crucial to start taking care of them early on. If you have any questions about children’s dentistry, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We would be more than happy to help!

"Say Goodbye to Your Child Dental Fear or Anxiety "

In children’s dentistry, nitrous oxide (also known as laughing or happy gas) is a commonly used gas to help children relax during dental procedures. Nitrous oxide is a mild sedative that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask placed over the child’s nose. It works by calming the child and reducing their anxiety, making the dental procedure more comfortable for them.

Nitrous oxide is safe for children, and the effects wear off quickly after the procedure is completed, so the child can return to normal activities immediately. It can be especially useful for children who are anxious, have a strong gag reflex, or have difficulty staying still during the procedure.

While nitrous oxide is a safe and effective option for children, it is not suitable for all children, and parents should discuss any concerns with the dentist. The dentist may recommend alternative options such as oral sedation, general anaesthesia or behavioral management to help children relax during dental procedures.

What Is The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a program offered by the Australian government’s Medicare system to provide dental care for eligible children. The program offers eligible children aged between 2-17 years with access to basic dental services, such as check-ups, cleans, fillings, and extractions, up to $1,026 in benefits over a two-year calendar period.

To be eligible for the CDBS, a child must meet the following criteria:

  • Be aged 2-17 years old
  • Be eligible for Medicare
  • Be getting a payment from the government at least once a year, or have a parent getting a payment from the government at least once a year.

To check if a child is eligible for CDBS, parents or guardians can contact their dentist or the Australian Government Department of Health to confirm their child’s eligibility and to find out how much of the benefit has been used so far. The benefits are paid directly to the dentist, and there is no need for families to pay for services upfront and claim back the money.
