What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are a cosmetic dental treatment used to improve the appearance of teeth. They are very thin, custom-made shells made of porcelain or composite resin that is bonded to the front surface of teeth to mask discolouration, chips, and cracks; and to brighten teeth.

PORCELAIN and COMPOSITE VENEERS
Porcelain Veneers are the gold standard for cosmetic dentistry. They can cover chipped and broken teeth, by bonding wafer-thin shells (0.3 – 1.00 mm) of hand-made porcelain over your existing teeth, thus creating a perfectly natural appearance and enhancing your smile.
Porcelain veneers are also stain-resistant, so they will maintain their bright white colour even with regular exposure to coffee, tea, and red wine. If you are considering dental veneers, be sure to consult with a qualified cosmetic dentist to determine if they are the right choice for you.
Composite Veneers are composed of engineered resin and other materials which adhere to the outer surface of your teeth, and they have a different and possibly less natural appearance. They are less durable than porcelain veneers, with more chance of chipping and staining.
When should I have a porcelain veneer?
If your teeth are stained or discoloured and don’t respond to whitening treatments, you will find that this type of veneer transforms your appearance. The veneers can also treat minor chips and cracks, and change or recontour the shape of your teeth if necessary. The use of the veneer can also correct slightly misaligned teeth which do not require further orthodontic treatment.
Are there problems associated with having veneers?
Porcelain veneers can be difficult to remove if you change your mind at a later date, and changes in your teeth in the future years could cause the veneer to crack. You must make sure that you take care of your oral hygiene to avoid the risk of dental decay around the edges of the veneer. Your dentist will advise you on the correct dental care to avoid these risks.
