Patient Case Study Journey
1 – Consultation
During an initial consultation, we met with a patient seeking advice to improve her smile. She expressed concerns about the alignment of her teeth and their shape. She preferred to avoid surgical interventions for jaw alignment correction and was interested in exploring alternative treatment options.
Similar to all smile makeovers we perform, we suggested beginning with proper dental and facial analysis through digital smile design technology to assess the situation and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
2 – Dental and facial analysis and assessment
Regardless of the case complexity, we always recommend proper facial assessment prior to any dental intervention. We believe facial harmony is important when considering smile aesthetics, as the smile is a prominent facial feature requiring careful consideration for any aesthetic treatments.
Our approach in every makeover focuses on working with your natural features while considering what makes you unique, using minimally invasive treatments with digital smile design technology where appropriate.
3 – Assessment findings
After detailed facial and dental analysis from different angles, the main concerns were identified including reverse smile line, crowded and extruded lower anterior teeth, narrow arches resulting in a narrow smile line, and protruded upper front teeth which were affecting the patient’s profile, particularly the relationship between lips, nose and chin.
4 – Treatment planning
Our cosmetic dentist developed a treatment plan considering Invisalign to improve tooth alignment, address crowding and expand the upper arch for a fuller smile appearance. This was followed by take-home teeth whitening treatment to improve tooth colour.
Finally, the plan included restoring the shape and proportions of upper front teeth with porcelain veneers. More rounded front teeth were designed to replace the existing square-shaped ones to be more harmonious with the patient’s oval-shaped face and enhance feminine facial features.
5 – Treatment preview
A 3D mock-up of the proposed plan was created and printed, allowing the patient to preview possible outcomes prior to starting treatment. For every patient, we ensure the treatment plan is collaborative by listening to patient goals and maintaining communication at every step.
The treatment plan was approved by the patient after physically trying the new smile mock-up, and she expressed excitement for the journey ahead towards her new smile.
6 – Treatment completion
We completed the Invisalign treatment without tooth extraction or invasive procedures in less than 18 months. Following two weeks of take-home teeth whitening, the front upper anterior teeth were restored with minimal preparation porcelain veneers to enhance shape and proportions.
The result was improved facial proportions without surgical intervention and with minimal biological cost to the tooth structure. We were grateful for the opportunity and trust placed in us to manage this smile makeover journey.
Our approach
We believe in working towards achievable, natural-looking results that may provide improved confidence and a sense of well-being through facial harmony considerations. Results vary significantly between individuals and depend on many factors including individual anatomy, healing response, and treatment compliance.
