Smile Makeover

Phoebe’s Smile Makeover Journey

Phoebe came to us seeking a natural smile makeover to address a congenitally missing front tooth, asymmetry and excessive gum display. Using Digital Smile Design, we planned her smile in relation to her facial features, carefully considering tooth proportions, position and gum architecture before treatment began.

Facial harmony isn’t about creating perfect symmetry. It’s about understanding facial flow — the subtle lines, proportions and natural asymmetries that make each face unique — and designing a smile that belongs within them.

COMPREHENSIVE SMILE ASSESSMENT

Comprehensive Smile Assessment

Phoebe’s assessment revealed a complex relationship between the missing front tooth, uneven tooth proportions, asymmetry and excessive gum display (gummy smile). We also considered the position of the existing teeth, gingival architecture and how the smile related to her facial features. Understanding these elements together allowed us to develop a treatment approach that addressed both the white aesthetics of the teeth and the pink aesthetics of the gums, while prioritising preservation of healthy natural tooth structure.

02Designing the Smile

Digital Smile Design, step by step

Using Digital Smile Design (DSD), Phoebe’s smile was planned in relation to her facial features, tooth position and gum architecture. Particular attention was given to improving symmetry, managing the space for her missing tooth and establishing natural tooth proportions. The proposed design was digitally developed and previewed before definitive treatment began.

03Previewing the Result

PREVIEW YOUR NEW SMILE BEFORE TREATMENT

Before any definitive porcelain restorations were placed, Phoebe previewed her digitally designed smile with a customised clinical mock-up. This brought the digital design into the mouth, allowing us to evaluate tooth proportions, smile line and facial harmony in a real-life setting.

The mock-up also provides an opportunity to assess and refine the design before treatment begins — an important step in our facially driven approach to smile design.

Common Questions

Frequently asked

Every smile is different. Phoebe’s treatment was completed over approximately 3-4 months, allowing time for Digital Smile Design, gum contouring and healing, the smile preview, and the different stages of her restorative treatment. Treatment time varies depending on individual needs and the complexity of the treatment plan.

Natural-looking results begin with careful planning. Rather than designing teeth in isolation, we consider the relationship between the teeth, gums, lips and facial features. Tooth shape, proportion, colour, texture and smile flow are individually planned to create a result that feels harmonious with the face rather than simply perfectly symmetrical.

Yes. Digital Smile Design allows us to plan the proposed smile before definitive treatment begins. Where appropriate, this can then be translated into a physical mock-up so you can preview the proposed tooth shapes and proportions in your own mouth and see how the design relates to your face and smile.

Comfort is considered throughout treatment, and local anaesthetic is used where appropriate. The experience varies depending on the procedures involved, and some temporary tenderness or sensitivity can occur following treatments such as gum contouring or restorative procedures. We discuss what to expect before treatment begins.

Yes. We accept all major Australian health funds, and eligible treatment can be claimed according to your individual level of cover. Payment options are also available for suitable patients, and our team can discuss these with you before treatment begins.
